What is Filestore?

Filestore is a fully managed Network Attached Storage (NAS) service on Google Cloud that provides scalable, high-performance file storage for applications requiring a file system interface and shared access to data. Designed to integrate seamlessly with Google Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and other Google Cloud services, Filestore delivers persistent storage that supports multiple concurrent clients using the NFS protocol.

Filestore is ideal for workloads such as high-performance computing, content management, media processing, and machine learning, where low-latency, high-throughput, and consistent performance are critical. With its managed nature, Filestore eliminates the operational overhead of provisioning, scaling, patching, and maintaining file servers, allowing teams to focus on building and running applications.

Key Components

Filestore Instance

A managed NFS file server that provides scalable, persistent storage for your workloads. Each instance is provisioned with a specific capacity and performance tier.

Clients (VMs & GKE)

Compute Engine VMs, Google Kubernetes Engine clusters, and other clients connect to Filestore via the NFS protocol for shared file access.

Service Tiers

Filestore offers multiple service tiers (Basic, High Scale, Zonal, Regional) to match different performance, capacity, and availability needs.
